Parents and parent liaisons at workshop.

Parent Liaisons hosted a workshop for parents and caregivers on March 20, 2025, at the Parent Resource Center in Mount Vernon STEAM Academy. Parents learned about the differences between cardiac arrest for adults versus cardiac arrest for kids. They also practiced CPR techniques. 

Cost of MV IDA Tax Abatements Presentation

Board Trustee Dr. Chris McDonough and Tom Scapoli, an attorney for Ingerman Smith LLP, gave a presentation about the cost of Mount Vernon’s industrial development tax abatements at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 18. These abatements, called payments in lieu of taxes (PILOTs), are issued by the Mount Vernon Industrial Development Agency (MV IDA).

Senior Spotlight

Isaac Amouzou is a senior at Mount Vernon STEAM Academy who shows the same dedication and precision to his academics that he does on the soccer field. Isaac has spent his high school years developing himself as a highly regarded student-athlete and an exemplary scholar.

During the Leadership Profile Report at the Mount Vernon Board of Education meeting last month, the superintendent search survey highlighted the Mount Vernon City School District's technology integration in classrooms as a key strength. Data collected from 810 individuals, focus groups, and interviews revealed that three out of five strengths were linked to the Technology Department.
