Mount Vernon Honor Academy holds pre-K graduation

Mount Vernon Honor Academy held their pre-K graduation on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The ceremony began with a welcome message from Principal Danielle Marrow. This was followed by singing and movement by the children and remarks by Dr. Gayle White-Wallace, Director of Pre-K. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of medals, a slide show and distribution of diplomas and gifts. A reception took place for the parents, students and faculty at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Students at MVHA learn about coding in Girls Who Code Club

Girls Who Code Clubs are free computer science programs designed for students in grades 3-12, and students at Mount Vernon Honor Academy have been participating to learn about coding. These clubs provide a supportive environment where girls can learn coding skills, build confidence, and develop a sense of community. Club members work on projects that address real-world problems, learn fundamental programming concepts, and engage in activities that promote social-emotional development.

Mount Vernon Honor Academy wraps up Black History Month with a special spirit week

Mount Vernon Honor Academy celebrated Black History Month with a bang! During the week of February 24th, MVHA staff and students participated in a spirit themed week commemorating Black History Month. Students were invited to submit artwork reflecting the contributions of African Americans as well. Festivities also included a Black History Month trivia contest hosted by Mrs. Youngblood.

MVHA students learn about renewable energy and conduct experiments with solar power

Middle school students at Mount Vernon Honor Academy learned about different renewable energies and conducted experiments powering different devices using that energy. New Yorkers for Clean Power, a non-profit organization working to expand career opportunities in clean energy, visited the school on Friday, February 7, 2025, to teach the free lesson and run energy experiments. 

 
Mali Cerease
Eighth-grade student at MVHA, Mali Cerease, competes in New York Sectionals Tennis Tournament

Mali Cerease, an eighth-grade student at Mount Vernon Honor Academy, recently qualified for and competed in the New York Section 1 Sectional Singles Tennis Tournament. She played her opening-round match on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Harrison High School.

As an eighth grader, it is rare to qualify for sectionals, and this was Mali’s second year in a row competing in the tournament. Many of the other students competing were seniors in high school.
